“The Spirit of the Lord is on me,

because he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor.

He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind,

to set the oppressed free, to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor.”

–Isaiah 61:9

Even in the darkest of places, the Gospel has the power to bring hope and freedom to His people. For the past 15 years, the 4CM Jail Ministries have witnessed the power of Gods saving grace and the Gospel breakthrough darkness within the prison walls. Starting with La Mesa Jail in Tijuana, Mexico, God has expanded 4CM Jail Ministries to the Hongo and Ensenada Jails, which all now have churches within the walls of the prisons. Inmates are able to attend service and discipleship classes after dedicating their lives to Christ.

4CM Jail Ministries are a living testimony of answered prayers. After years of praying for the once crime and drug ridden jails, the jails have now been transformed into spaces of hope and restoration for inmates who are looking for meaning in their lives. With the opportunity to meet Christ and attend discipleship training, we have seen amazing transformation in the lives of former inmates who were once controlled by their addictions and lives of sin. By the grace of God, the jail ministries have been so fruitful that our organization has been able to pay the bonds for countless prisoners – many of which are now passionately walking with the Lord.

It is a great joy to proclaim that today many of the inmates who were paid bail through this ministry are now joining 4CM to advance the Gospel in their local communities. Many of the former inmates are currently serving as pastors or support staff in Mexico at local mission centers and churches. They are an integral part of His kingdom building in the churches they serve and are living testimonies of how Gods love transforms broken lives into whole lives – filled with hope and purpose.

4CM’s jail ministries first began in 1998 when our Founder visited the prison, “La Mesa,” in Tijuana, Mexico for the first time. La Mesa Jail was featured in a documentary as the world’s second worst jail facility. A small corrupt community operated within the confined walls of this jail. This controlled system allowed violence, drug trafficking, and money laundering to occur within the community in the jail. The conditions of the facility were unimaginable as the inmates were eating off the floor, lacking in toiletries and space.

Seeing these conditions, 4CM started the Jail Ministry by bringing in critical resources to share the love of Christ and for the survival of the inmates and their families. A few years after our ministry began, a new President was elected in Mexico. The President broke down the walls of La Mesa, arrested the officials, replaced the staff and allowed our organization to build a church within the jail. After building a church, our Jail Ministry witnessed transformations in the lives of the inmates as they left their old lives behind and dedicated their lives to Christ.

Recently, 4CM was recognized as one of the major influences in the turn around of atmosphere and quality of life inside La Mesa Jail. Today, the church in the La Mesa Jail serves as a place of worship not only for the inmates, but 4CM and other churches, organizations, and individuals who desire to partake in the radical changes happening in the walls of the jail.
